1956: In 1956 Porsche a coupe, cabriolet and the Speedster models were continued from the 356 with bodies supplied exclusively by Reutter. This body type was referred to internally at Porsche as the T 1 which stood for technical Program 1. 1956 coupe had early taillight arrangement and single bumper overrides tube. This car has the 1600cc, 110 hp, OHV flat four, and is one of only 850 Speedsters that were produced in 1956. 1956 Cabriolet with side script but until the 1958 model year cabriolets had no vent windows.

The 356A is the first refinement of the line introducing numerous refinements including a curved windshield rather than a split or bent screen. The split rear overrides tubes were added to bumpers in March 1957 when teardrop tail lights appeared. The Speedster was one of the most famous and successful of Mr. Hoffman's initiatives. The main visible change was in the doors. Coupe, cabriolet and Speedster featured a lower positioned striker plate mounted by three screws. Cabriolets also featured a modified rear cowling which allowed a new optional hardtop to be fitted. Front vent windows were also first time on cabriolets.
1958: During 1958 model year the Speedster was replaced by the Convertibles D. The Convertibles D was natural progression form the Speedster. An obvious improvement was roll up windows. The D stood for Drauz, the coachbuilder. It had a taller windshield with chrome-plated frame and roll up side windows replaced the side curtains of the Speedster. 1958 Porsche 356A Sunroof Coupe has all the correct Carrera GT features. In addition, there are several a roll bar, seats, and doors with leather window straps, gas cap, rearview mirror housing, and aluminum deck lid with correct louvers, bumper stripes, leather hood straps, and exhaust system.
1959: In 1959, the Carrera receives extra power and is now called the 1600 GS-GT, with the sports version offering more output. During 1959 it had GT speedster with flat bumper trim, Spyder mirror and six-louvered rear lid. The coupes with high overrider tube on front bumper were only used in 1959. Moreover, powerful and sophisticated four cam Carrera motor was available in GS Speedster, Cabriolet, and coupe forms 1956 to 1959. In late 1959 more substantial designing and technical enhancements gave rise to the 356B (a T5 body type).
