History & Specifications of Porsche 356 B
1960: 1960 Convertible D was replaced by the roadster. The Roadster was a truly versatile open air sports car. The car is with the wind-up windows and a comfortable interior. The bolt on curved glass windshield is removable. Porsche introduced new T5 body style in 1960. The 356B T 5 body was totally new. While it closely resembled its predecessor, both front and rear end sheet metal was totally resigned. The main visible change consisted of larger, higher bumpers. The headlights were also raised and a larger chrome plated hood handle was present. Coupes also got front vent windows. The interior was also faced lifted with a new steering wheel and column. The rear seating area was also modified. Mechanically, there were many changes, including new brake drums and upgraded gearbox.
1961: Another model was introduced in 1961. That is Karmann Hardtop. It was built by Karmann, a German coachbuilder. This model was basically a cabriolet body with a hardtop welded in place. Roadster production was moved from Drauz to DIeteren in Belgium. This is another refinement of 356B.
1962: T-6 body shell found in the 356C series and assembled in Belgium. The 1962 model year brought with it the final body change, the T6. The front lid was squared off and the fuel filler moved to the top of the right front fender. Windshield and back glass were enlarged on the coupe. From the rear, an obvious difference was the addition of the second vent grille on the rear lid. The Roadster and Karmann Hardtop were discontinued during 1962. Karmann began producing coupes, sharing this task with Reutter.
1963: The 356B is iconic today, but in 1959, it fabricated an audible stylistic breach from its predecessor, and it took time for accepted acceptance.
